Alliance for the Education of Women in Afghanistan

The Alliance for the Education of Women in Afghanistan aims to provide quality education opportunities for women and girls in Afghanistan, fostering empowerment and contributing to a more equitable society.

Introduction to the Alliance

The Alliance for the Education of Women in Afghanistan exists to safeguard and expanding access to quality education for women and girls in Afghanistan. Alliance members endeavor to amplify access, quality, and scope of online and face-to-face educational opportunities for women and girls in a context of severe restrictions, depletion of resources, and economic hardship. As part of the Alliance for the Education of Women in Afghanistan, international and national members are creating a community of practice that will provide measurable changes and time-bound solutions to women and girls’ access to quality education in Afghanistan.

Mission and Vision

Mission: Safeguarding and expanding access to quality education for women and girls in Afghanistan.

Vision: The Alliance envisions a future where every Afghan woman and girl has the opportunity to access and receive quality education, empowering them to thrive and contribute to a more equitable and prosperous society.

What we do

The Alliance serves as a platform, fostering collaboration and building strong relationships among member organizations, both internationally and nationally. It acts as a nexus where these organizations can synergize their efforts and share expertise in various domains to uplift the educational prospects for Afghan women and girls.
Central to the Alliance's mission are key thematic areas, such as advocacy, information sharing, bridging programs, quality assurance and recognition, medicine and heritage conservation, bridging programs to help students transition smoothly between educational levels, and advocacy initiatives that seek to raise awareness and mobilize resources.

By channeling their collective strengths under these themes, the Alliance aims to catalyze lasting improvements in educational access and quality for women and girls in Afghanistan.

Afghan Women Support Teams Up with Lecturio

In an empowering collaboration aimed at advancing medical education for women, the medical studies group within the Afghan Women Support organization has partnered with Lecturio, a leading private sector provider of medical studies. This strategic partnership brings to life an organs-based training program, delivered online, specifically designed for female medical students who are determined to pursue their education. Thanks to this partnership, Afghan female students now have the unprecedented opportunity to access international quality medical education content, enabling them to continue their medical education that was otherwise interrupted. This initiative underscores the vital role of AEWA in bridging educational gaps and connecting learning providers.

ASU partners with CW4WAfghan in offering English language courses

The program aims to provide educational opportunities for Afghan girls and women amidst the challenging conditions under Taliban rule. By offering online English language courses tailored for self-paced learning and requiring low bandwidth, this collaboration reaches nearly 2,000 students across Afghanistan, enabling them to study via laptops, tablets, and phones in various settings. These educational efforts are facilitated by CW4WAfghan staff and volunteers, aiming to overcome the barriers to education that women and girls face in the country. This initiative is part of a broader commitment by ASU to inclusivity and global engagement, supporting Afghan women's education both locally and those who have been relocated. CW4WAfghan, with its long history of educational projects in Afghanistan, continues to fight for the rights and opportunities of Afghan women and girls, emphasizing the critical importance of education in improving their futures. AUAF and Alliance's Strategic Collaboration Unlocks Opportunities for Women

The American University of Afghanistan (AUAF) has significantly expanded its outreach and impact through strategic collaboration with Alliance online secondary school programs, effectively broadening its admissions campaign for the Fall 2024 online academy program. By utilizing the networks of all Alliance secondary programs, AUAF has successfully disseminated its call for applications, resulting in an overwhelming response of over 6,000 applications within just 48 hours. This impressive demand highlights not only the acute need for quality education among women who have been denied their right to study but also the efficiency of leveraging existing educational networks to amplify impact. This partnership exemplifies a commitment to quality online education, underscoring the potential of collaborative efforts in bridging the educational gap for disenfranchised groups, particularly women in regions where their educational rights are restricted. This approach not only meets the immediate demand for accessible education but also sets a precedent for how institutions can work together to address significant educational challenges and foster environments where every woman has the opportunity to learn and thrive.

Alliance Members to Explore Hpass Benchmarks for Excellence in Secondary and Tertiary Education

To elevate the quality of education across its network, the Alliance is embarking on a project to benchmark its quality standards for secondary and tertiary education against the Hpass quality standards. This initiative, aimed at ensuring that all Alliance members adhere to the highest standards of learning provision, will leverage the Hpass accreditation already held by Alliance members AUAF and Save the Children. The detailed discussions and finalization of this benchmarking process are scheduled for the next Alliance annual meeting, set for May 30th and 31st in Doha, Qatar. This gathering of all Alliance stakeholders will be a pivotal moment to align on these quality benchmarks, setting a course for enhanced educational outcomes across the board.
